Tigray leadership crisis threatens return to conflict as TPLF reinstates pre-war chiefs

The Tigray regional council reinstated its pre-war leadership and the proscribed TPLF says its chairman Debretsion Gebremichael has assumed the regional presidency, in defiance of the federal government's decision to extend the Tigray Interim Administration mandate by one year. The move sharply escalates tensions with Addis Ababa.
