Security, compensation and incapacity weigh down Ethiopian irrigation projects
Although more than half of Ethiopia's 113 million hectares is suitable for irrigation, projects nationwide are stalled by security challenges, compensation disputes and contractor incapacity. Reliance on rain-fed agriculture leaves the economy exposed to climate volatility despite the country's vast water resources.
